According to the Government QILT survey results, of the Macquarie students who graduated with an undergraduate degree, 69.5% were able to obtain full-time employment, which is slightly above the national average, this is the same with postgraduates, of which 86% were able to find full-time employment within the four months after graduating.
Those with an undergraduate qualification at Macquarie University had a median salary of $53, 500 which is less than the $56,000 average across Universities in Australia. For postgraduates, according to the survey results, the median salary was $89, 500, well above the $80,000 national average.
Study Options
Macquarie university provides a great variety of courses and qualifications to suit any area of interest, from the arts to science and engineering; their range of courses have work placement opportunities as well as the chance to develop industry connections through the real-world experience methods preferred by Macquarie. Macquarie University courses are available in Diploma, Bachelor Degree, Masters and postgraduate research qualifications.
Macquarie University International College Programs
Macquarie is determined to allow everyone access to its education and resources, and in order to do so, provide specialised programs designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to enter their first year of a degree. These programs come in three forms, Standard Foundation Programs, Intensive Programs and Diplomas. These macquarie programs are conducted in seven-week blocks, and divided into three specialist streams in the areas of arts, business and commerce or science and engineering.
Macquarie University iLearn
If you want to be a Macquarie eStudent, with studies entirely available online, the Macquarie iLearn system is perfect for you. iLearn is the University’s online Learning Management System (LMS) which allows collaboration, sharing of resources and access to a huge range of electronic materials. Lecture notes, discussion boards and quizzes are available online, as well as recorded lectures available to students who cannot physically attend.
Resources
Macquarie University have a range of resources for students, to aid them when they need and help create a more enjoyable student experience while at Macquarie. These resources are available in three main areas, through study help, wellbeing service, financial assistance and Indigenous support.
Study Help
Academic Advisors are available to students to provide guidance and support to students across all areas of study, including help with referencing, assignment and report structure and exam preparation. The Learning Skills Unit (LSU) is another service which offers a range of services and resources available electronically to help develop your academic skills
Wellbeing Resources
There’s a number of wellbeing resources available throughout the Macquarie academic calendar, including counselling services, the Macquarie Medical Clinic which is available to the public, welfare and religious services including a Chaplaincy branch as well as employability and career development which provides information and workshops to assist with career goals.
Financial and Legal Support
Macquarie University has a number of financial services available to students who may otherwise be struggling. These offers can come in the form of interest- free loans as well as grants based on the circumstances. Macquarie’s Welfare Service doesn’t provide legal advice, but helps students to access legal assistance if they need it.
Indigenous Studies
Macquarie university’s cultural adviser aims to strengthen the university’s relationship with the Indigenous community and help better the capabilities of enrolled students. The Walanga Muru Tutorial Program is a Commonwealth- funded program helps to support indigenous students achieve better educational results while studying at Macquarie University. Career support is also available to provide Indigenous students the support and assistance they need to become more employable and lead to better career outcomes. As well as this, there’s a number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events throughout the year for culturally significant celebrations and commemorations.
Campuses
Macquarie University is different from most Universities in australia, only having one main campus located in Macquarie Park. The benefit of this is that all resources, facilities and services are available to all students.
Macquarie Campus
Macquarie University is located in the city of Macquarie, the ‘tech-hub’ of Australia, which is only 15 kilometres from Sydney CBD. Situated on over 126 hectares of land, the campus offers a great combination of state-of the-art facilities in a relaxed, country-like environment. Macquarie Campus offers a bar, bookshop, cafes, childcare, counselling, medical clinic, pharmacy, post office, private hospital and a travel agent all on campus, not to mention the many other facilities that make living and learning at Macquarie that much better for students.
Hospitals and Clinics
Macquarie University is very dedicated to its health care, both through providing quality learning opportunities to students, as well as services and support for the general public through the many health- related clinics and facilities they offer on campus.
Macquarie University Hospital
The Macquarie University Hospital is a purpose-built healthcare facility located on campus. Patient services are offered in dozens of specialised areas including; allergy testing, cardiac assessment, disease management, dermatology, mental health, musculoskeletal medicines, immunisations, general health checks, work related incidents and many other areas.
Chiropractic Clinics
The Macquarie University Chiropractic Clinics as well as their subsequent research centres offer quality services to the public and community groups including the elderly and children. Macquarie’s chiropractic clinics, Summer Hill Clinic and Village Square Shopping centre clinic offer interns and supervised work placements to students undergoing studies in Chiropractic- related qualifications, usually a Master’s Degree.
Chiropractic laboratories are also equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to further assist with the development of skills, understanding and research in the areas of therapy and patient assessment. They feature Radiographic positioning technology including x-ray machines to allow students to benefit from learning about assessing radiographic procedures and determining outcomes for patients. The Department of Chiropractic also has access to chemistry laboratories, wet laboratories and anatomy teaching.
Cognition Clinic for Reading
This specialised clinic provides assessment and support services to those who struggle with reading and spelling. It also features learning and developmental opportunities for those looking to enter the industry, as well as professional development sessions for teachers. Assessments, recommendations and advice procedures are all accomplished through the clinic, especially in developing the reading skills in young children.
Centre for Emotional Health Clinic byzantine
The Macquarie University Centre for Emotional Health Clinic is focused on developing a better understanding of emotional disorders and creating more effective treatment methods. Services are offered for all ages and include assistance in areas of depression, anxiety, behavioural problems, PTSD, trauma, social skills, OCD and many more. It combines research, training opportunities, treatment and assessment and also provides placement options for those studying related subjects in areas such as psychology.
Macquarie University Psychology Clinic
The specialised Psychology Clinic at Macquarie is designed to offer services to children and adults alike, helping them to have access to quality support and services. Services include therapy, assessment and treatment plans. Postgraduate students in psychology can also take part in work placement opportunities under the watchful eyes of industry experts at the Psychology Clinic.
Australian Hearing Hub
The Australian Hearing Hub is located on the Macquarie University campus and includes the University’s Speech and Hearing Clinic. The clinic specialises in providing services in audiology and speech pathology. Using state-of-the-art facilities and technologies, the centre provides assessment and treatment across a broad range of hearing and speech difficulties for adults and children. It also specialises in providing a high-level of training and mentoring for students undergoing a work placement at the clinic under the supervision of professionals.
Research
Macquarie University is highly- regarded as being a top research school in Australia, having all its research efforts ranked above world standard, with over one hundred Macquarie University researchers being in the top 1% in the world. In 2015 alone it gained over $57.9 million in research funding, and contributed to it becoming the 5th university in Australia for international collaboration in areas including life and earth science, mathematics, computer science and engineering. Healthy People
The Healthy People Macquarie research centre aims to further developments in healthcare. The use of cross-disciplinary research teams to further understanding in health across the lifespan including medical research, sensory and cognitive processes, literacy and language and lead to better outcomes through innovation.
Innovative Technologies
The Macquarie Innovative Technologies research is aimed at developing systems and technologies to advance our world in areas of science, engineering, technology and data. The research undergone is used to develop methods and processes to address some of the biggest issues facing today’s society and re-invent future processes to align with the growth in technology.
Secure Planet
The third research priority of Macquarie University is focussed on the issues facing sustainability and furthering exploration of our planet’s position in the Universe. Through research of the environment in areas of chemistry, biology and climate, the cross- disciplinary approach to research is aimed at addressing the ways we can improve decision-making processes in areas of climate change, energy sources as well as investigating areas of astrophysics and astronomy.
Prosperous Economies
Through the emerging globalisation of politics, relations and trade, this area of research is focused on developing the economic strength and productivity both domestically and internationally. Research is conducted in areas of global financial and economic systems, as well as the impact of technology and on operations, sustainability, productivity and competitiveness on a global- scale.
Resilient Societies
This future-shaping research task is aimed at furthering the understanding of cultures in the world as well as developing and improving communities. Research is focused around areas such as the effects of social, political, religious and environmental influences on societies, methods of communications and the areas of ethics and governance as well as human rights in disenfranchised groups both domestically and internationally.
World-Leading Facilities
There are dozens of world-class facilities and resource centres which call Macquarie University home, all of which are great assets to the learning and development of skills for students across the entity of available discipline areas.
Macquarie University Health Sciences Centre
Macquarie University is the only Australian University to house its own private hospital which is entirely not-for-profit. The research undertaken by Master degree and doctorate students greatly improves our understanding of a range of health areas, all of which would not be possible without the world-class facilities, technologies and equipment readily available to them at Macquarie’s Health Sciences Centre. Macquarie is Australia’s leader in melanoma research and also houses the largest motor neurone disease research centre.
The Australian Institute of Health Innovation
This centre, recently relocated to Macquarie University; is at the forefront of Australia’s research into the healthcare system. It provides many research and collaboration abilities for students studying a postgraduate qualification such as a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in a research field. It provides an opportunity to reshape the Australian healthcare system by developing new procedures and models to better improve patient outcomes, lessen the costs to the government and allow it to become more accessible to all.
Macquarie Park Innovation District
The Innovation District at Macquarie Park is one of Australia’s leading innovation hubs and is the location for the entirety of Macquarie University, the Macquarie University Hospital as well as over 380 businesses in this technological district which all work, learn and engage together to transform collaboration and innovation in Australia.
Simulation Hub and Future Lab
The simulation Hub at the University campus is home to a range of simulators to imitate situations from driving, home, work, flight and virtual reality. The Macquarie University Library
Macquarie University Library is a one of the greatest resources available to students across campus. In total, it has approximately 1.17 million books and physical resources, 68,000 journals and around 578,000 eBooks. Every year the library experiences almost two million visits from students who use the facilities, services and resources to assist them with any report, assignment or presentation they have.
Collections
Not only does the Macquarie Uni Library provide a great range of accessible items to students; it also has a number of collections of special material that is available to authorised personnel, research students and those that have been approved for access. The collections range from everything from rare books, maps, Egyptology and Palaeontology material as well as a collection of thesis and published works from previous students.
Resources and Facilities to Students
No matter what you need to help improve your studies, the Macquarie Library has a fantastic range of facilities and services available to students that go beyond books. The librarians are always available to help you locate a specific title, help with referencing or simply to assist you with any queries you may have about the library itself. In addition to them, there are currently 257 accessible computers to students, as well as plenty of study spaces which can seat up to 2,800 students. Group and individual study rooms are also available, as well as 18 specially designed presentation practice rooms.

There’s also the Ubar located on the second level, which is the entertainment hub for students looking to relax, have fun and meet new people.
If you need something on the go, the Staff Café and Crunch Café also provide takeaway meals, which is great for students living in or around campus as well as anyone else looking for a quick food fix after a long day.
Museums and Collections
Macquarie University is passionate about exploring the diversity and creativity of art, science and history and offers many unique opportunities to feature a diverse range of artwork throughout the campus.
Macquarie University Art Gallery
The art gallery at Macquarie offers a constantly changing feature exhibition of different artists to engage with students and explore modern concepts and issues through art. Entry to the gallery is free, and is a fantastic place to explore at leisure or take part in a scheduled program such as interactive demonstrations, tours, lectures and workshops.
Australian History Museum
Also located on campus is the Australian History Museum, which features over 8,000 items which reflect Australia’s history through permanent and temporary displays and exhibitions. It’s a great way for international students coming to Macquarie University to grasp the vast history of Australia, from pre- colonization to the modern era.
Biological Sciences Museum
Macquarie University’s Biological Science Museum is a great asset to students, providing a range of specimens which include animals, insects, skeletons and ocean life in three large aquariums. It’s an excellent point of reference for students study a science- related subject and is used frequently in the field of research, especially for those undertaking a postgraduate qualification.
The Downing Herbarium
Macquarie university is definitely a school dedicated to the development of research in areas of science. Macquarie University Village

The Morling Residential college features 100 brand new student apartments, only five minutes from Macquarie University. Student Representative Committee
The Student Representative Committee (SRC) is Macquarie University’s representative body for all students. Students are elected yearly to the committee and work with students and staff to better the experience for all on campus, uphold student’s rights and create an inclusive environment which all can benefit from. The SRC also hold dozens of social events, activities and initiatives throughout the Academic year including O Week, Harmony Day and the Macquarie University music festival.

Sport forms a very big part of campus life at Macquarie, with many sports and recreational facilities and programs running throughout the year for all students. Whether you wish to take part in a sport for fun or for competition, looking at training at the state-of-the-art Sports and Aquatic Centre, or just want to casually use the many sporting equipment and fields around campus; the choices are seemingly endless.
The Macquarie University Sports and Aquatic Centre
This world-class facility is available to meet your every fitness and wellbeing need or goal, regardless of your age or fitness level. It has many great features, including a dedicated Health Club and the popular Macquarie gym, sporting clubs, sports fields and swimming pools available for students and the public. The centre has programs including group fitness classes, personal trainers, beginner programs and female only training zones.
Sports Programs
No matter what interests you, or what you wish to get involved with during your time at Macquarie University, there’s a program to suit virtually everyone. Martial arts programs including mixed martial arts (MMA), taekwondo, kickboxing and jujitsu are readily available for you to take part in, as well as self- defence courses. There are also specialised courses available, including surfing, BMX, skateboarding, rowing and golf.
Macquarie University also actively promotes students getting involved in the university games, wither individually or as a team, and compete against students from universities Australia-wide.
If you’re interested in being part of a sporting club, there’s plenty on offer to suit every level of fitness and competitiveness. Social sessions are a great way to meet new people and take part in a game of basketball, badminton, squash or table tennis, all without having to commit to being in a team, just rock up and play when you want. If you’re looking for something more long term, there’s sports clubs which compete regularly in district, regional, state and national levels of competition across the country.
The Sport and Activity club is a place where you can borrow equipment and use the many venues and fields available for dozens of sports. Whether you’re playing with other friends or wanting to make more, this is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and have a break from the usual study routine.
